John L. Bragg Resigns from Board of Directors

announced today that John L. Bragg has resigned from the Company's Board of
Directors and has accepted an invitation to join the Maple Leaf Foods Board of
Directors.
"John has demonstrated a keen knowledge of the business and provided
exceptional guidance and insights since he joined the Board in 1995, "said
Michael McCain, Chairman. "On behalf of the Board and all shareholders, I want
to recognize his contribution and share my deep appreciation for his
leadership during the past 13 years."
Mr. Bragg is a director of Sobey's Inc., Empire Company Limited and the
Toronto-Dominion Bank. He has served on the boards of many Canadian companies
including Imasco, Shaw Communications, and Maritime Life Assurance. He is
President of a number of companies including Bragg Lumber Co. and Cherryfield
Foods and Chairman of several Canadian and U.S. companies including Bragg
Communications, EastLink Cable Systems, and BioSan Laboratories. Mr. Bragg is
an Officer of the Order of Canada and the Chancellor of Mount Allison
University.
